Winter seems a very long way away right now. Soaring Temperatures have sapped everyones energy and long afternoon siestas seem like a great idea. So with the heat reaching 31 degrees, all I can think about is a long cool drink and ice cream! With the current favourite being chocolate coated salted caramel and vanilla!
To be honest, I have just eaten some beautiful sweet juicy watermelon whilst watching Wimbledon on the television, so I am not exactly hard done by, but writing has to be done.
Myself and the family have just had a fabulous 4 weeks in the Uk and with the best bits recorded on camera, I have been looking at some photos for inspiration. I would love to be floating lazily along the River Avon right now on the barge we hired for a week.
Thinking of a family holiday, to entertain a YouTube and music loving pre-teen is not easy. But amazingly the away from wifi holiday was a brilliant choice. She still had withdrawal symptoms from not being able to FaceTime with her best friend, but with the help of some very lovely friends , we managed to pass the time mainly tech free. Night times were spent up on deck chilling with a glass of wine, or playing a less chilled game of Doble , which requires sharp reflexes and a loud voice!
Surprisingly, fishing was a hit, along with feeding the very cute little ducklings and a beautiful tame swan who took the bread as gently as a kitten. Thankfully the weather was kind and as it was so hot on some of the days we just sat on the edge of the river bank and kicked our feet in the water.
Really simple pleasures that came at no extra cost. A big thumbs up from me as it was a holiday any family could enjoy if they like being outdoors and the kids can swim.
Our next stop after the boat was returned, was in Wales for a lovely long weekend with friends, and then on to Cornwall to visit family. Sadly the sun had gone away by then but we didn’t let that spoil our fun.The most amazing beaches were on our doorstep, and we explored. Gwithian beach was one destination, and although the rain decided to join us, it was still as spectacular … perhaps more so as the beach was deserted and the most beautiful different coloured snails made an appearance on the grass dunes.
As one of the summer subscription boxes has a Bug and small creatures theme I thought the team would love to see the photo of the snail race we encountered! But stormy grey clouds were rolling in on the horizon so although we felt privileged to be there we had to make a dash for shelter when the heavens really opened up. Fortunately we found ourselves in a surfer’s cafe where they served a yummy Cornish cream tea to make amends.
Now we are back in Spain, and we still have a long summer ahead of us happily. After all the hard work getting our 3 month summer themed package of crafts ready and boxed, I am now looking forward to working on our Autumn themed craft boxes with the MyGeckoBox team. Thinking about some colder months might just help me cool down !
